The Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physicsin Waterloo, Ontario, was founded in 1999 with the support of Research in Motion's Mike Lazaridis, and has since moved from its original home in Waterloo's Old Post Office to an award-winning building of its own. Home to such physics iconoclasts (rebels?) as Lee Smolin, Perimeter offers programs and activities for the general public as well as the scientific community, and, more importantly, makes many of its scientific outreach lectures available online.

I saw that building a while ago. The photographs don't do it justice.

I live in town and walk by and see it often. It's a nifty place architecturally and is well designed for collaboration and communication. It's not well designed at all for their folly of hosting musical performances, but it's still a nice community gesture.

I was born and raised in Waterloo, and I remember the PI going up. Definitely a neat place, and one of the few things I like about my hometown.
