" Is Morrissey the Postmodern Liberace ?" - Any reasonably drawn graph of their careers would show how Morrissey waxed as Liberace waned.

Y'know, I'm reasonably sure I don't have any Liberace-related needs.

Funny you should mention Liberace because I just chanced on this vintage clip the other day: Liberace and Cassius Clay.

I'm not sure if it's the depression, the alcohol, or the lack of sunlight talking, but all I can say is YES, YES, YES!

The last time my parents were in Vegas they visited the Liberace Museum and had lunch at the gift/coffee shop. They found it such an excellent deal they stopped back a couple days later on their way back to the airport to pick up a couple of sandwiches for the trip.

Yeah, they're like really, really old.

I wish my brother Lee was here...

I'm surprised Liberace didn't sign off on that copyright petition. BTW, does it qualify as a googlewhack if it's three words?

And oh yeah, when I visited the museum in 2003 it seemed like they were still trying to keep the illusion alive that he just never met the right girl. I guess they didn't want to break any old ladies' hearts.

But anybody in LV definitely should make this a stop on their itinerary, if for no other reason than to see the World's Largest Rhinestone.

Edward R. Murrow asked the hardball questions, as was his wont.

miss lynnster - Really, get your mind out of the gutter.

As a straight man who proudly displays that exact photo on his refrigerator (as a magnet purchased at aforementioned gift shop/lunchateria) I consider it my duty to disabuse you of any notions concerning the good man's sexuality. My thought was that any discussion of the great extent of Liberace's overwhelming, 100%-purely-heterosexual studliness would be too much for the elder fans' image of him as a paragon of virtue.

Now if you don't mind I have to get back to my manly DVDs - tonight it's gonna be Rock Hudson in Ice Station Zebra followed by Psycho with Anthony Perkins.

I will always love that deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love, Liberace.

I was in Vegas last April and went to the museum because I thought it was be totally kitschy. What with being in the middle of a strip mall and housing his hot pants collection. I have to say though, between the quality of exhibits at the museum and finding out about the Liberace Scholars program, I came away really impressed. I mean, I was also still pretty amused at the kitsch and his sense of humor, but it's a pretty well run organization.
