Anyone want to run some text analysis? The more interesting trends would probably be too thematic to turn up with simple word-counts, but I can still imagine some interesting changes over peace, war, and 'police action' times.

Like junk food, these speeches should come with labels identifying their contents and nutritional value. Six hundred percent your daily recommended intake of jingoism. They should also be required to attribute the actual speechwriters. Somehow I suspect that the first presidents did more of their own writing than the last dozen or so. I blame television. Humbug.

To answer my own question: here. ( Note that this speech is not officially listed as a State of the Union Address. Regardless, it was perceived as being a State of the Union Address by the press and the public at the time it was delivered and is commonly remembered as being a State of the Union Address.)
