Synopsis for the unadventurous working man? (please?)

I remember the original like a bad dream. Which makes sense, considering that I fell asleep halfway through.

From the IMDB page: "This was an art short done in the form of a movie trailer. A kind of short parody of the original film. the director/writer is known for his short art video's. THERE WILL BE NO FULL LENGTH FILM TO FIND."

MetaFilter: best of the Fleshbot.

This is a whole new kind of awful. A parody's supposed to at least be funny.

So no Caligula 2: Electric Boogaloo?

*kills meme, self*

Fuckin' Romans knew how to party, man.

Well it's a parody in the sense of being indistinguishable from the original; ie, not a parody at all.

I first parsed that as "Al Gore's Caligula."

Saw this at the Whitney Biennial and it was one of the few bright spots of an otherwise execrable show.

ah, topless flossing. thank you, dgaicun.

goddamn you dqaicun. that clip brought back some odd old memories.

um... i'll be in my bunk.

got it in one, mkb.

I'm just glad to see Karen Black working again.

That said, the brilliance is in the non-parodic tone. I don't need to see Leslie Nielsen flying through the imperial palace. The dead-on Seriousness Of Purpose is what makes it effective. Although Vidal does nudge-nudge a bit in his presentation.

Excellently excellent. Thanks, empath.

and staring, a bunch of people you've never heard of!

Wretched excess. The original is beyond perversion parody, but this managed to wring something out of that soggy sock.

Stay after the credits for the wierd Cortney Love Monologue.

Helen Mirren is pretty well known. And a damn good actress. So that should be more like... "and staring, a bunch of people I've never heard of!"

At the Whitney, I stayed for a third viewing I was laughing so hard. Big mahalo.

Teresa Ann Savoy from the original was hot hot hot!

Unfortunately, shes dead dead dead. :(

Tedious wankery.

Tedious wankery.

It didn't seem to take the guy that long, did it?

Thank god this is a joke... I was watching the "trailer" thinking to myself 'Oh no... they convinced Helen Mirren to be in this schlock again! This is terrible!"
Then again, those golden strap-ons are HOT.

Second dgaiun's link !

Third myself: at least the original had something about it, the trailer of this one sucked...at all time I see the actors as if they were about to burst in laughter..probably because they saw a PEE PEE :-) ! wiwiwiwiwiywwiwywyw *blush*

Also untolerable and offensive to my ears: the voiceover of the trailer...at all time I tought he was about to introduce Pearl Harbor SuperBawl and Celebrity something and another dozen multimillion C movies.

Maybe there is a decadence in this remake that is really what decadence is about. I'll go watch ..something else.

Damn, looked like a good movie.

Ah, Caligula. I have fond memories of that awful excuse for a movie; it was so popular at the New Haven theater where it was showing in 1979 that they had to hire new staff, one of whom was me. My rent paid, free popcorn, and the ability to wander in any time I felt like it to hear lines like "Caesar cannot be a fool!" or "A brother kills a brother who's killed his father who's killed his son. Fate. And then someone will kill Caligula!" or "Five gold pieces!"... good times!

Hey, is today Lax-Grammar-and-Orthography-Friday?
Damn, I always forget. I say I'll remember but then I forget. Damn.

I first parsed that as "Al Gore's Caligula."

The most depraved PowerPoint presentation of all time!

Is it funnier with the sound up ? With the sound down it seems just like the original, but with more golden dildos (dildoes?).

"Teresa Ann Savoy from the original was hot hot hot!

Unfortunately, shes dead dead dead. :("

Her wikipedia page says she's alive and well and living in Milan.

How are the two of the three "great stories" the birth and death of christ? wtf? that's pretty damn christian-centric.
posted by delmoi at 11:03 AM on January 5, 2007

haha, fat courtney love.

How much did they spend on this thing?

Umm, sorry, but everyone knows the ancient Romans spoke with English accents.

Damn, Milla was looking fine. She made me wish this was going to be a real movie.
posted by mullingitover at 12:36 PM on January 5, 2007

This is..... a joke? A joke without the funny? A joke for whom? I really don't get this.

It seems that Vidal has lost what little was left of his mind.

With the sound down it seems just like the original, but with more golden dildos (dildoes?).

According to Merriam-Webster:
Inflected Form(s): plural dildos also dildoes.

No wonder Dan Quayle got confused.
posted by Siberian Mist at 2:15 PM on January 5, 2007

also, not spotted in the trailer but included in the IMDB listing, Benicio Del Toro... WTF?
posted by adamms222 at 2:19 PM on January 5, 2007

delmoi:How are the two of the three "great stories" the birth and death of christ? wtf? that's pretty damn christian-centric.

In the same way that Caligula has anything to do with the third 'great story'. That's pretty damn porn-centric. Which if nothing else is better than being christian-centric.

I'm amazed people didn't automatically 'get it' being a joke. I laughed my ass off. The best thing was Milla Jovovich pretending to be a good actress pretending to be a bad actress, there's an unneccesary step somewhere in there...
