Hey, that's a cool word, callipygean. The person who taught me that word also taught me: The love life of the camel is more interesting than anyone thinks. It has been known at times to try and bugger the Sphinx. But the posterior end of the Sphinx is clogged with the sands of the Nile and that accounts for the camel's hump and the Sphinx's inscrutable smile. I like some of Sarah Bishop's other work on that site. Simple. Contemplative geometry. Another artist, a late friend, Lawrence Willette, also loved painting callipygean women.

I don't see anything "near abstract" about them Abstract, hell. Huh. If y'all can't see the abstracted shapes in this one, I don't know what to say. But ok, maybe most of the abstracting is occurring in my head, which is why I used "near-abstract." The way she pulls out and emphasizes shape and color from the female body reminded me of the way someone like Arthur Dove abstracted out shapes and color from landscapes and lawn mowers. It's clearly representational, sure, and not as far along as Dove's stuff, but I think the impulse to lose the representation in favor of stylized shapes is definitely there in some amount. I just see it more than you, I guess. Perhaps being a fag helps me see past the badonkadonk more easily. :)
