You call THAT a resumé?
January 30, 2007 5:25 PM   Subscribe

It's just a resumé for a 27 year old, who is still working on his Masters degree. He's written a little software. You may have heard of him (but you might have not). He posted the very first (18 sec.) video to YouTube. He makes the Bangladeshi people proud (a comment there provides some backstory). About a week after YouTube's sale to Google, ($1.6B) he provided some insights on how YouTube went from concept to hyper-growth in a presentation to his Alma Mater. His name is Jawed Karim.

I can't think of a witty way to say one of those links is messed up.

Which? They all seem fine to me.

The presentation he gave on "concept to hyper-growth" should be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nssfmTo7SZg. spock regrets the error

Jesus Christ.

That resume... it hurts to read. In that "Why wasn't I born a genius?" kind of way.

Good on ya, kid.

It hurts even more because I'm only a year older than he is

This guy should relax, he's making me look bad.

rollbiz, no one likes a braggart. Just so you know, and purely for the record, when I was 25 I was making, er, well, progress. I was making progress.

Good on this guy. Maybe a vacation would be good. Me, if I ever have big coin? I'm going out to my workshop to tinker and am never coming back in.

He was profiled in the Times back when the Youtube sale went down. "With YouTube, Grad Student Hits Jackpot Again." TimesSelect only, I guess.

Pfffft, I've already started like six of those Youtubes.

He may be a genius — maybe even a nice guy — but he doesn't seem to know a whole lot about elephants.

What is this "youtube"?

Hey, Mark Twain published his first story when he was 30.

Don't fear the reaper.

Also, while he has a nice curriculum vitae, I was more impressed with this dude for some reason. YouTube got to where it is today through rampant video piracy, which isn't anything to brag about. His scaling of PayPal's transactional servicing by a couple orders of magnitude is a far more impressive technological feat.

It is.

Damn you.

Man, and I thought this was depressing.

By my age: Earl Vickers became the first person to translate the entire Bible into Pig Latin.

Well, this actually makes me feel good about myself.

He's Bangladeshi? Ha! Like my (Bangladeshi) parents need even more fodder for their "BANGLADESH RULES!" moments.

Cool, though.

I just showed my mum Jawed's background story from Muhit, the family friend. Apparently she might have known them, or they might have known my mum (or at least seen them); she grew up in Shideshwari, where Jawed's dad is from, and my grandparents' house is next door to the house of Kalim Sharafi, the father of one of their mutual friends, where they used to hang out a lot.

Bangladesh does have quite a "small-world" factor, but this is starting to get spooky.

yeah - at first I was thinking, "damn i need to DO something with my life." But upon further reflection, I think we all have things to be proud of. Hold him up as a symbol of what's possible in this world - not a benchmark on which to judge yourself.

HOORAY Jawed - job well done!
