I've done something similar on 4-wheelers and jet skis.

I just watched an advertisement!

The UK: "we ghost ride on the opposite side" (and with knights on the bonnet)

It's bad luck just seeing a thing like that!

Viral marketing makes you sick.

Step 1: Recreate.
Step 2: Great pain
Step 3: Profit!

Yeah, gwint, at least this advertisement didn't paralyze your city.

What is it with you people purposely posting links to advertisements?

Does the RAV4 come in blue?
posted by Remy at 8:01 PM on January 31, 2007

Yes, it comes in either "Parsifal blue" or "Gawain puce." The latter is stunning, really.

Now, if I could get one with an An Tir paint job...

...that's not SCA, by the by. If nothing else, we'd use better armor, and jousting sticks that really hurt. :)

I actually laughed out loud watching that. I have no desire to own a RAV4. I feel fine.

It's not ghostriding if someone's driving.

Well I thought it was great. Thanks for posting it.

Yes, it's an ad, but it was really funny. I liked the colander helmet the one driver was wearing.

Wasn't there some B movie from the late 1970s or early 1980s about traveling motorcycle jousters?
posted by Forktine at 3:51 AM on February 1, 2007

Knightriders was the name of that movie. No time to IMDB it.
posted by bashos_frog at 4:08 AM on February 1, 2007

Oooo, yeah! Knightriders! And I agree, the SCA fighting marshalls'd never allow such out-of-period assery!

I didn't find the video funny.

But I guess they still win because I already have a RAV4.
posted by CrazyLemonade at 6:43 AM on February 1, 2007

Every SCA member I know would start off by screaming "THAT'S NOT PERIOD!!!"

hey, a lot of the greatest works of art were commissioned by monarchs, the church and rich idiots. i am all for corporations paying lots of money for stuff that is interesting or entertaining. and there is no way i am going to buy a rav4 because of a damn commercial, just like seeing Michaelangelo's pieta didn't make me give my life to jesus, but I am sure glad the church commissioned him to make it.

Pieta !? = RAV4

woah.

Does it come with those lever doohickies to work the pedals for when I break my spine? Good lord. Perhaps the UK doesn't have hooligans such as ours here in the United States who would see this and be inspired to greater reaches of hooliganism until such time as some guy plants a mace into some college freshman's noggin at fourty miles an hour and the Oh Noes, The Uproar. Even Jackass only took this sort of jackassery as fast as two BMX bikes would go.

Perhaps we're a worse nation for it...

anotherpanacea - yes, Pieta = RAV4. how can you not see that?!

i am just saying that even if a crappy company is footing the bill, cool stuff can come from it. i despise advertising, but if i see a cool ad i don't just dismiss it because it is an ad. sometimes really creative people are brought together to do really great work in the name of stupid consumer crap. but the ad can still be cool.

I'm an SCA member (one of those damn authenticity policing laurels even) and I'm going to start off by cringing and wondering what the fallout is going to be like when the really bizzare guy who shows up two or three times a year convinces his even less bright fiends to try this.

You can't really tell a reporter, "Know who? Oh, yeah, that's the creepy guy who we always wished would go away...."

You've got it all wrong. It's:

Pieta = Z4
