'The Family' Has Reunited. Members of the studio band created in the wake of The Time's disintegration, who never toured and who only released one self-titled album (featuring the beautiful photography of Horst and lavish orchestration by Clare Fischer, like much of Prince's other projects at the time) have reunited. No word yet about any involvement from either Prince (writer of nearly all the band's songs, including their gigantic hit Nothing Compares 2 U - well, at least for Sinead O'Connor) or his Revolution cohorts Wendy (twin sister of Family co-lead vocalist Susannah Melvoin) & Lisa, now a successful scoring team for film and television.

Ahh, The Time, what memories... When my high school decided on "Jungle Love" as the theme for Senior Prom, there was a raging debating as to whether it should be The Time's version or the Steve Miller Band's version... I think they finally decided on The Time's version... I don't know, because I went to my boyfriend's prom at the local catholic school and they had a totally lame wannabe hair band that never even played any slow songs! /bitter derail sorry

I loved The Family when they came out. Though it was appropriate for the era, their stuff now sounds rather overproduced, but I liked Susannah Melvoin's voice, and it's cool that they're giving it another shot. I liked O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" (ugh, those cutesy letters and numbers that Rosie O'Donnell is apparently so fond of now as well), but I never stopped considering The Family's version the definitive recording of it.

oh yeah, and I loved the photography in that album, though I can't recall all of it at the moment...any chance someone has some scans?

I say this as a person who has long been a huge Prince fan, and who actually owns the album by The Family: I can't believe this is an fpp. However, this is the perfect place for me to post this over the top solo by Prince at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Dhani Harrison were doing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Prince comes in around the 3:30 mark.

The Wikipedia page for the album has some of those photos, as well as their MySpace page (which also features the somewhat lesser color photography of Prince). Yeah, wasn't that an amazing solo? A fitting tribute, I think.
