If this post reveals anything, it's that geeks going wild should never involve photographed nudity. Because the things that make us geeks also tend to make us less that appealing when viewed without our ill fitting pants and Doritos stained t-shirts. serazin, I know it's not the a tech field in the late '70's, but I worked for ExecPC in the very early '90's and I can assure you that the female contingent was well represented. Bob Mahoney's wife was a well respected constant. Always there, always on top of whatever needed fixing. In fact, they hired my then super-awesome-techno-girlfriend-who-eventually-became-my -Wife, before they hired me. When I walked into that place, there were many guys. But it was clear that if you wanted something done, you found a lady-in-charge. Prolly not what you were looking for, but I felt like sharing. So there you go.

Well, as someone who spent a number of years employed as a bookkeeper, I can only find Marla Wood's story (in which she, a lowly bookkeeper, sues microsoft for sex discimination, quits her job there, and still walks away worth 15 million bucks) inspirational.

quin, it's always nice to hear about women in non-traditional fields. It's just a bummer that we're generally massively outnumbered in those fields. Coincidentally, I recently read an interesting article about the difference between men working in nontraditional fields and women in nontraditional fields. Basically, although men may experience negative feedback outside of the workplace for having taken a non-traditional job, they benefit on the job - that is - they tend to be promoted faster and get paid better than women in that job even though women are in the majority. I've also heard that as a traditionally male job becomes more gender integrated, average pay for that job drops. Can't find the article now though. Doh.
