Superconducting power transmission cables In another thread, I mentioned that High-Tc power transmission cables were an example of an anticipated use of a technology which never came to fruition, and that the possible energy savings weren't worth the effort. Oops.

This is exciting. As far as I know, this is the first practical application of superconductors for any use. I wonder if the energy savings will really make it worth the infrastructure involved in keeping the lines in liquid nitrogen. posted by Loudmax at 12:25 AM on February 14, 2001
