That ebony ad reminds me of those painted African haircutting signs that I used to see for sale in SoHo in the late 80's. Do you remember what I am talking about nickyskye? I always wanted one of those.

mjjj, I so love that Tiddy Bear gizmo! Honest, vronsky, I have no idea what you're talking about. Wish I did though. Googled African hair sign and came up with this cool one from Togo, Ghana and Benin. Is that what you mean?

That's it nickyskye! I used to see those for sale in soho galleries all the time (I lived on Mercer) anywhere from 300 to several thousand dollars depending on size and condition. Some were quite large. The Ghana and Benin ones are closest to what I remember. Cool post as always. Thanks.

Probably! I went there frequently especially when my sister would visit. She loves art markets like that. Long time ago though, and I am lucky if I remember what happened last week. ps - Add 123 to my mefi name at yahoo dot com ;)
