Happy Valentine's Day!

I once sang this at a Karaoke bar. I was really drunk (natch). I can't even listen to the song anymore without collapsing in shame.

Not to degrade the post. Is this is the Dead Kennedy song that is best known these days?

Can I just have one long weekend alone in a cabin on the North Coast of California with Camille...? Booze optional.

I think California Uber Alles is still no. 1.

You forgot the butthole surfers.

I have never heard "Too Drunk to Fish" before and if I ever choose to it will not be punk covers but Ray Stevens' original, thank you very much.

What, no Avenue D / DJ Kicks?
posted by patr1ck at 12:25 PM on February 14, 2007

I was going to put the Avenue D song in the mix from the DJ Kicks album by Erlend Oye [sic?] (actually having that song and then the Dead Kennedys' song play one after the other on my iPod yesterday is what partially inspired this post), but it would have destroyed the parallelism. And not including the Butthole Surfers was an oversight. :(

For us short attention span ignoramuses in the community, are these links in proper order of decreasing quality? I would really hate to miss the only one I am going to take the time to click upon.

The Avenue D version is far superior.

No Rövsvett, Fracas, or Extrema versions?

Also, Evan Johns And His H-Bombs, who unsurprisingly are unfindable on YouTube. If this were MetaChat I'd YSI it, but it's not, so you'll all have to imagine the awesomeness.

Ironmouth writes "I think California Uber Alles is still no. 1."

I was thinking Holiday in Cambodia.

I prefer to call it "Too Intoxicated to Copulate", thank you very much.

Also, what mr_roboto said.

Too drunk to post. I like short songs! I like short songs!

Avenue D is the new punk. I didn't know they covered Too Drunk to Fuck. It must be spectacular.

Seconding (thirding?) mr_roboto, but I am not sure which holiday that song would be best for. I alos appreciate the Styx/DK dichotomy.

mr_roboto writes "I was thinking Holiday in Cambodia."

I might be out of the loop, but I would say that Cambodia is also the best known song among Dutch punks. At least I still hear it much more often than California.

The last-six-month chart of listeners on last.fm has (combining variant spellings):

1. California Über Alles
2. Holiday in Cambodia
3. Kill the Poor
4. Too Drunk to Fuck

Jimbob - on our end of the Pacific, we'd say "Too Flushed to Fornicate" in polite company.

Happily, i think, I still have an AT 7" 45 of Uber Alles, 12" 45 a Cambodia b/w Police Truck (iirc), and also TDTF, which I was moved to hand-craft a mom-friendly sleeve for. I was unconcerned that she might be concerned by the smiley-face Nurnberg rally image on the Uber Alles single, or the Cambodia imagery, but heaven forfend she read the lime green word 'Fuck.' Interestingly, I am adopted, and in middle age, eschew children.

Avenue D doesn't cover the Dead Kennedys. It's a totally different song. It's on their myspace page as 2D2F. Still cool as shit though.

Avenue D sounds like the kind of band that is dated before they start. I feel like I should like them, but I don't. I thought the vocals were ok, but compositionally they are lacking. Also, there is something about the distortion and energy of punk that beats out all but the best techno. Just my unschooled 2 cents. On the other hand, their production values seem better.
