Digg and clone wars

Digg and clone wars Most of you probably know about digg. They have really added the people factor into the news. With the introduction of an open source "digg clone" software meneame and digg's success a lot of clones started to emerge (As it happens). Some of these are actually quite good and unique in the way eg Videosift and VoteSexy [NSFW Babes site]. So what does this mean to us; users? Surely competition means good news. Or will this simply saturate the "digg niche" similar to myspace and their clones, polluting the internet?

Have you never heard of myspace? lol What i mean is that when myspace became a success everyone started launching their own myspace clones. It became even easier when myspace clone scripts went on sale. Have a look on Google. This is turning into a joke. Obviously 99% of these sites will never make it anywhere unless they have that something special.

there's really nothing i can say to this that won't pale in comparison to Burhanistan's perfect snark

Yeah, crappy links. I thought that one of them would at least be to an article talking about this alleged proliferation digg clones.

Instead, it's like, "Hi, I've heard of three sites that are kinda like digg, and I decided to make a post about it. Oh yeah, and here's a link to myspace for no good goddamn reason."

myspace started as a clone of facebook, if I recall. Don't give them credit for being original. (scoff scoff scoff)

If only there were a site where I could vote up digg clones and the highest voted ones would appear on the front page.

Digg needs the competition. As I've understood it, they've been complete jerks with C&D orders against people taking "their" content/links.

What digg did was impose a mass market consumer mindset on the internet. Thanks.
