Turkey Cinemascope

Turkey Cinemascope is a series of dramatic photographs from director Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Shot all across Turkey, he used them to record locations he was scouting for his films. Many are panoramic, some are epic, others intimate, and all are beautiful. (via and via)

I haven't seen any, but judging by a trailer for one of his movies, they're similarly beautiful.

These look just like shots from Uzak (Distant), only instead of being panoramas, they are just slow pans.

I want to like his films more than I actually do. The photography is gorgeous though. And the porn/Tarkovsky scene is great.

Thanks for this - I'm currently reading The New Life by Orhan Pamuk which largely takes place in buses going all around Turkey - it's nice to have some visual information to match up with the story.

Great stuff - I'm a big fan and I want one. Uzak is a very special film - see it if you ever get the chance, preferably in a cinema.

and if you're interested, I suspect these were taken with a Hasselblad Xpan, an equally desirable object.
