Steve Canyon. Starting last month, the comic-strip site Humorous Maximus has been re-running (with his estate's permission) Milton Caniff's classic daily strip.

A classic comic strip by a top-flight illustrator and storyteller. In addition to receiving the first Reuben Award in 1946 (and another in 1971), Milton Caniff [longer bio] was President of the National Cartoonist's Society from 1948-1949, and their annual lifetime achievement award is named after him. Collections of Steve Canyon strips from 1947-1953 are available here.
