Gummi Art

Artist Ya Ya Chou works in several materials, the most interesting being gummi bears. The Mommy, The Candelabras, and sculptures are nice, but the Bear Rug is not to be missed. The best piece is the Chandelier, which apparently is perfectly fine after two years.

Awesome. Maybe I'm just a picky jerk, though, because I was disappointed that the rug's eyes, nose and claws weren't also made of candy. I mean, really, how hard would it have been to make that sucker entirely edible?

ObSimpsons: "That is the rarest gummi of them all, the gummi Venus de Milo, carved by gummi artisans who were exclusively in the medium OF gummi."

I really want to eat that ram sculpture. No, seriously.

That chandelier is sexy.

The bear needs some work. And yeah, if this was art school crit, the eyes and nails not candy ???

If I were an artist working in the medium of gummi, I would have no works to display. They would all be in my belly.

I heart gummy anything. Especially muscat gummies.

That chandelier is fantastic. I really like the slow grading of the colors.

And as decorative candy goes, its much more attractive than the decapitated peep-chick that my cube-mate used to display from our window.

I'm so going to do something like this for my next party! For Halloween, we had a coffin with a "corpse" and we did all of the inner bits with alcoholic jello, but this will be a little less creepy for those people not really into vodka laced strawberry livers.

This is fun stuff, thanks Matt. I particularly liked Joy-Coated.

Bizarre and likeable. Weird to see the Joy-Coated on melting here and there. Gummi Bears are intriguing with their want-to-squeeze-them pliable translucence and gem colors. I can see the allure.

I like candy, candy experiments and edible art of all kinds [Japanese candy sculptures on a stick], even bad candy.

Wow. I totally want a gummi bear chandelier now.

I don't know if a food's ability to withstand two years of anything is something we should be happy about.

Yummy artwork though. I wonder how many pieces have been started and then had to be abandoned because the artist just couldn't resist having a bite.

I wondered this too. Thinking about it, if I were to make food art, I would use rhubarb as my medium. It's nice and pretty and I fucking hate the way it tastes.

I like his chili pepper drawing of a moose quite a bit. BTW, I'm representin' for the Haters of Gummi. Bleck! Pretty, though.
