A woman escaped injury when her car crashed through a fence and into a swimming pool on February 24, 2007 in Woodland Hills. (flickr. Via). Not the first time it happened either

Might as well get this comment out of the way.

This probably won't last long, but anyway...

When I was younger, I remember one day waking up to find that a horse from a nearby farm had escaped and had got itself stuck in our pool. It could stand comfortably out of the water and it wasn't freaking out, just kinda standing there, hanging out at the pool. It was a bizarre sight. Also, the best day off school ever!

Is this something you have to live in the Valley to care about?

I'm not following you on the second link. Am I to believe that this particular woman drove cars into all of those pools?

Hey, growabrain: Grow a brain, mmmkay? Like, Where is "Woodland Hills"? On the moon? Madagascar? Virginia? Suburban Detroit? Or is it a cemetary, in Portland, Maine?

Or perhaps you think the junction of car and pool makes it clear it must be California. You should get out more. We have cars and pools even in South Africa.

I love how Metafilter has devolved into this self-assured, hypercritical cesspool. Get a fucking grip, Goofyy.

Not only is the LAFD on flickr, but it's got a very hep and responsive blogging fireman in Brian Humphry, who posted that story and who keeps the citzenry clued in on matters Fire Departmental.

Hungarian woman driving into a sinkhole.

(No offence, Goofyy - I noted it in the tag)

Woodland Hills! My hometown! I'm glowing, just glowing with pride. Our elderly women can lick your elderly women any day of the week. None of that "Ooo, I can't get the car wet, someone buy me multiple Lifehammers, I don't float" nonsense. Our seniors will remorselessly dunk your surly teens in the brine like revivalist robots from the future, and then swagger off to The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for scones and Extreme Pinochle. Woooodland Hiiiiills!!! Yeah!

uh, this is going to get deleted, right?

I see your underwater car in Woodland Hills and raise you a formula one racer in a bubble villa on the French Riviera.

Is there a cars in pools pool on Flickr? Is that what this is about? Because I know you folks love your Flickr-brand Yahoo! Product, almost as much as you love your Apple-brand Generic Product of the Week.

Also, I love how the car did the crashing. Not she crashed her car. Her car crashed.

Bad car. You sit there at the bottom of that pool, and you think about what you've done.

A car in a pool. The best of the "huh" news of the web.

Wow...life imitates Snow Crash.

Questions:

Is that woman with the white hair the driver or a witness? She doesn't look all that wet.

How do they get the car out...bring in a large cherry-picker crane and set it up alongside the fence?

I assume the car wasn't all that badly damaged...how do they dry it out completely to make it drivable again? Can they do something to retard mold formation in the air-conditioning system and upholstery?

On a whim, I bought one of those self-rescue gadgets that can slice a seatbelt strap and crack a car window -- it's attached to the upper part of the seatbelt where I can get to it one-handed if need be. I'm fairly sure of my driving, but you never know when an out-of-control eighteen-wheeler is going to hit you broadside and dropkick you across three lanes of traffic and into the reservoir.

Be nice people. Traffic in LA is really bad, particularly in the San Fernando Valley. Can you blame her for trying to carpool?

I like to take it one step further and imagine it's the same woman and the same pool every time.

She just can't get that clean blue water out of her mind. The sweeping kidney curves of the tiled edge. The gentle gurgling as her wheels slowly drift to the smooth bottom, no longer to grip the scarred highway in a fantastic hell-race of fear.

Sweet, blissful sleep.

Oddly enough, the Google Image Search link took me back to a post titled car in pool from July 2004 on growabrain's blog.

Plutor: Yes, it matters. If the place wasn't mentioned, it wouldn't. But don't name obscure towns without a state or country.

growabrain: good point on the tags, but if you put it in a tag, why couldn't you put it in the actual text? I seldom look at tags myself.

My favorite part is that the car matches the color of the pool so well. They were meant to be together.
