Napster takes first steps in trying to appease the RIAA, and specifically BMG. To me this approach is the stupidest thing Napster could have done. Who would want to pay a membership fee to use Napster if one can't even burn the files onto a cd?

Surely it won't be that long before someone comes out with a way to undo this copy protection? Maybe this'll end up being the best possible compromise -- the heat will lift from Napster, and those who wish to work within the system can, while those who are determined not to, won't have to. posted by Byun-o-matic at 7:11 PM on February 21, 2001
