I don't think anything that has 5000 participants and no deaths should be allowed to be called a death race. One or two participants, ok, perhaps they got lucky this year. But anything more than ten and it's hyperbole.

fvw's right. Where's the death in this so-called "Death" race? I was expecting buzzing saws; poisonous snakes; giant, bone-crushing stone wheels; spike-lined pits; pools of acid; and lots and lots of other pointy, bitey, stingy, slicy things.

I was up for it but had do a duathlon in Milton Keynes that weekend. One of my mates did it and said it was awesome fun - loads of army types do it. Here's some photos from the Guardian website. I love, in the following the following order: 1. The guys who did it in speedo trunks 2. The obstacles set on fire 3. The fact that lots of the obstacles had German flags planted on them. Apparently in honour of the visiting German Army team but we know better don't we!
