AFSCME

Hey, on your way to work tomorrow, instead of sitting around with your finger up your a$$, look around. There's a union out there called AFSCME and they're busting their balls for you doing all the sh*t work you take for granted.

I'm sure wendell is overworked around here; but, he does seem to be a good sport about it all.

Saw that a couple of days ago, and LOL'd

I live in a "right to work" state, which means if I breathe the word "union" I will end up out on my "ass." So tell the AFSCME to STFU.

I get the feeling the responses to this thread are going to be a sort of litmus: pro- and anti-union commentary from the folks who skipped the link, lighthearted riffing from those who actually watched it.

And wendell don't take shit from nobody.

I don't walk to work with my finger up my ass. It's uncomfortable, and I tend to get picked up by the cops.

It's interesting to see the evolution of profanity over the years. Who actually uses the word hardon as an insult now?

When did "fkn" become the cool word? Does it replace "FTW" on the top of the "I wish this went away now" pile?

I loved it, thanks!

The trim, well-groomed white male in the expensive suit at the center of the video---think he is a union man?
Or The Man?
Just saying.

I dunno, people who think saying "retarded" is a big witty ticky one?

I saw a guy with an AFSCME pin on all about this video the other day and he really wanted to check it out. He was all excited because he had been a member for very many years. It was really hard to explain, though. He asked "Alright, so what's a youtube?" and I tried to explain how it was this website on the internet and how he can do it on his computer and all this stuff.

I hope he eventually saw it because that video is awesome.

The sound quality is just right--it really sounds like it was recorded on a 70's era tape deck.
posted by aerotive at 8:27 AM on March 19, 2007

So is this an old commercial with new audio, or does the satire itself date back to the 70s?
posted by brownpau at 8:56 AM on March 19, 2007

So, so funny.
posted by slimepuppy at 9:07 AM on March 19, 2007

Yeah I'm a little curious if this is some inside joke that the Union did itself or maybe some comedy trope decided to riff on em?

Either way, it's beautiful. We dig up those holes do you don't fuck up yo car or nuttin.

When did "fkn" become the cool word?
It's fowl language - cause it rhymes with 'chkn'!
posted by Karmakaze at 9:50 AM on March 19, 2007

I read somewhere (boingboing?) that the audio on this was actually done by the guy who did the original, official voiceover - he recorded this as a joke at the same session.
posted by tristeza at 10:42 AM on March 19, 2007

Pahahahaha, brilliant. Is the actual PSA up anywhere to compare with?
posted by Skorgu at 10:44 AM on March 19, 2007

I have to say I'm a little surprised that people are suggesting the audio was a recent addition, as though people in the 1970s had no sense of humor. Just because YouTube didn't exist, there were OTHER ways to pass around this sort of underground comedy.

There are many other examples out there (see previously) of bored announcers and technicians doing this kind of thing to amuse themselves.

Besides, the audio quality sounds too authentic.

Please consider that there is no preview available in some cases (all cases? I read via RSS). So the only thing I have to go on that describes the content of the post is abusive language about fingers in asses.

I understand the need to be funny, or sarcastic, or whichever you were intending to be here. However, I'd really rather you have some kind of explanation for the post if you're going to word it this way.

Or just not post single-link-to-youtube posts.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to suck the fun out of this post by complaining about something.
