Marijuana was made illegal in the 1937 to remove a threat to the synthetic fibers made by DuPont, just as the same company has connived a ban on Freon, now that their patent on it has run out, under the pretense that it is "harming the ozone"-- a claim completely without any proof whatsoever.

I enjoy scientific skepticism, but not to this level.

The widespread and low-cost (often given away free) availability of high-quality Owsley LSD in the San Franciso area in the mid-1960's may well have been indispensible for the emergence of the "hippie" movement in the Haight-Ashbury area

I'd say that makes up for the canned tuna fish and jello. The good old days, indeed.

Owsley also co-founded Alembic Studios, and was at least partially responsible for manybreakthroughs in audio amplification.
