That's a pretty dumb dog. A cat... I could see a cat doing that. They'll chase a laser pointer until they die from exhaustion. My dog chased a laser pointer exactly long enough to realize it had no scent and no touchable surface (about 3 seconds) before saying Fuck This and going back to licking his balls.

My childhood dog used to try to catch my Tyco electric race cars (do they still make those). It didn't occur some time later to me until I saw a movie featuring someone getting electrocuted on the subway third rail that my dog could've been seriously injured if his tongue had ever made contact with the track.

I have seen a lot of dogs go for the laser pointer, for hours, until they wet themselves from excitement. I actually had to be careful with a friend's dog - it would get so wound up it would slam its face into a solid surface over and over if the dot "rested" for any length of time. I pretty much lost my taste for the game (no matter how much the dog seemed to enjoy it) after it gave itself a couple of really hearty cracks trying to bite through the floor.
