I talk to my haircut. The Rev. Dr. Fred Lane was a dada jazzbo as part of the Raudelunas scene in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in the 70s and 80s. His real name is T. R. Reed, and he's a creator of wonderful whirligigs. There's also a documentary in the works (careful of your eyes on that page).

1. I never knew that the word "pataphysical," as heardd in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," was an actual word. 2. I love the word "jazzbo." 3. Hittite hotshots! 4. Thanks for this glimpse of a person who has concocted an exuberant world to live within. Neat post.

I lived in Tuscaloosa for a year, the happiest day of my time there was when the Tide lost to some high school team from Arkansas on opening day. What a nightmare: if you walk down the main street (i.e. where the worst bars in the world are) you get to hear "Sweet Home Alabama" blaring from the unversity gift store 24 hrs. God please send the big tornado and wipe this place clean.

Holy Crap. A week or so ago I had "Fun at the Fundus" stuck in my head, so I ordered a copy of the "From the One That Cut You/Car Radio Jerome" European double CD (*spensive* these days). It just came last Friday. Hivemind, you creep me out sometimes.

The artwork on the back of the albums is the best--fake singles the band put out--"Twist, Leathernecks, Twist," ""Fred Lane at the First Baptist Federal Prison," and my personal fave, "Get Outta My Gal." Here's hoping the Reverend Doctor's actual (?) lost album, "Icepick to the Moon," surfaces someday. Great post, thanks.

Thanks, sleepy pete. The first link's one of my pages from years ago. Because of the page, most of the original Raudelunas folks got in touch, and through that came the release of Raudelunas 'Pataphysical Revue on CD. Craig Nutt (aka Ron 'Pate) is an interesting cove. Tim ('Fred') and Jeanie's own site is odd-creachter.com.
