Believe it or not, I agonized over including the 'the' (very briefly, mind you) and kept it because it sounded so familiar to me since I used to know some Ukrainians.

wow, some very beautiful and amusing stuff. i was expecting to see the same tired and very cliched new york circa 1978 graffiti you see everywhere.
