See this is why I'll give Google the benefit of the doubt in most situations. The directions actually say "Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 5,572 km." Unlike MSN Maps (since been fixed).

And don't even get me started about the Moscow to Anchorage one. Going west was the wrong idea. It's a much shorter swim if you go East, but would want to do this in the summer months.
