I liked the elephant keeper one also. Some of the other comics did a good job of illustrating the inherent creepiness of some men (spoken as a man) who seem to think that just by the simple fact that they are looking at a woman somehow creates a connection and that woman must also feel the same, even if she doesn't act like it. Blindness from the neighbor downstairs.

Should be callled "Missed Perceived Connections". "...you flashed your hand to show me that you do not have a ring on your ring finger. I should have talked to you today. It almost looked like you wanted me to." This is called "stalking". And it's creepy. What is wrong with people?

Flickr doesn't axe non-photos. I have plenty of screenshots in my photostream, and Metafilter's own legendary Hands of Manos has plenty of illustrations in his. I seem to remember that they only axe accounts that are solely or mostly non-photos.

This is called "stalking". And it's creepy. What is wrong with people? Mmm. I think you're going overboard there. Stalking is when you stalk someone. A bittersweet reminiscing about a short tete a tete doesn't constitute stalking, a fanciful fantasy doesn't constitute obsession. In a sense I guess what I'm saying is that there is a huge gap between the impulses of the zany id and the point at which the sentiment becomes an urge, and the urge manifests itself in an actual action. I'm reminded me of—I don't remember how but I stumbled across this angry feminist blog post reacting to a picture on postsecret that said "sometimes I feel like grabbing at a woman's breasts just to see the reaction" and proceeded to eviscerate the sender (in the quaint jargon of objectification etc.) as if he were actually groping them. And it's like, no, you don't understand. The idea isn't the action—sometimes something's so outrageous that you can't help but wonder about it (a bit like the imp of the perverse), like someone at a balcony wondering what it'll be like if she jumps off. I'm not saying that something only becomes relevent when acting upon—examining your urges, presentiments, etc.—is fine, but hating on someone for having undesirable-when-actually-acted-upon ones comes ickily close to policing thoughtcrime.

I think my post above sort of mixes up the thought-of-groping issue with the missed-connections issue, in terms of justifications—missed connections is way more innocent and actually sort of in a high tradition, the romantic one. Does it really take a "lonely, needy" person to wish they'd established a relationship with someone they spoke to on the bus? That'd mean almost every chick flick has at least two despicable characters: the protagonist and his/her romantic partner. I guess it depends on how you define "lonely, needy"; in some sense we as humans tend to always be alone and in need, thus making the "it's who we are as creatures" comment precise.
