All your base are belong to us was referenced in a newspaper article here in Baltimore the other day. In the City Paper, at the bottom where the author of the article is supposed to describe themself, Joab Jackson simply had "All your base are belong to us." No explanation or anything. People I tried to explain it to could not figure out why I was laughing. The best part of the article? The very last 2 lines:
"All your Base" has been around for a while but it recently got very popular due to the www.SomethingAwful.com forums.
A poster began to use an animated gif of the introduction and it caught on quickly. It spread so fast that eventually the use of "All your base" as his signature was banned.
The images in the shockwave flash 'music video' are actually images that SA posters made. It's simply a compilation.
Other sites, such as metafilter, began to copy it and it spread even further.

It's interesting that both of the Wired articles that quote Metafilter comments are about strange memes propogating themselves around the web. As if when something a little zany is happening on the web, you can bet those MeFi punks have something to say on the subject. I'm also glad to see that the author quotes Joshua from Memepool.
