I think we've seen this before; if not, it IS kinda cool. posted by klangklangston at 8:52 AM on April 10, 2007
I hope this isn't a double- I searched very hard before posting.... If it is, mea culpa. posted by Dr-Baa at 8:55 AM on April 10, 2007

the post people are thinking of was not this. it was just someone else putting a post it mario in their dorm room.
this is pretty sweet, and should be cause enough for 3m to release primary color post its instead of all this pastel crap. posted by shmegegge at 9:02 AM on April 10, 2007 [1 favorite]
I had to stare at this one for like 10 seconds before I figured out what it was. Cool idea, but if you are going to expend that much effort why not at least turn the lights on? (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID) posted by DU at 9:08 AM on April 10, 2007
Nicely done. And, yeah, I can remember a couple of other videogame-art stunts, but no trace of this one.
Ahhhh, the resourcefulness of our banana slugs. I'll have to check it out this week. posted by annaramma at 9:18 AM on April 10, 2007
This happens to be the school I currently attend, and that is the building my computer lab is in. It is indeed way cool. The Donkey Kong/Princess floor is the best when viewed from the inside. About 2 years ago some other students did a similar thing for Mario. That time they didn't have permission from official sources and the economists on the 4th floor got upset and took down the post-it notes! posted by LoopyG at 9:42 AM on April 10, 2007

Frankly, it's sometimes encouraging when people act like their stereotypes. posted by roll truck roll at 9:45 AM on April 10, 2007
Maybe it was on MeCha that I saw this. I know that someone has animated it, to look like Mario's moving... But I don't have time to look... posted by klangklangston at 10:05 AM on April 10, 2007

What a phenomenal waste of time. posted by tadellin at 10:32 AM on April 10, 2007
Phenomenal waste of time?! This is much less a waste than the thousands of hours tossed away on current video games that will never have the staying power to inspire homage thirty years down the road. This sort of awesome project is what I would expect from the students of any institution ballsy enough to represent itself with banana slugs. posted by solipsophistocracy at 10:59 AM on April 10, 2007
Totally frickin' sweet. posted by Mister_A at 11:52 AM on April 10, 2007
I love the fact that they documented the experience and the how to. Very cool, and certainly NOT a waste of time. I'm sure they had fun doing it - 5 hours or 50 man hours total isn't so bad. posted by dcress at 11:58 AM on April 10, 2007
Made me think of this tribute to MacBU at Microsoft, complete with extensive how-to and shameless plug for Excel. posted by dammitjim at 12:25 PM on April 10, 2007
