Fifteen would be too much

Most of these photos could have been taken in rural-anywhere, but there's something about a roller-skating rink DJ that just screams rural America.

And thirteen wouldn't be enough, I guess.

When I drove across country "off-highway" these are the kinds of places I ate. The waiters were interesting, the locals engaging, and as William Heat Moon observed, you can tell the quality of the food by how many calenders are on the walls. A five-calender+ dinner was a keeper.

These are terrific photos. Sensitive to their subjects, and not patronizing. There's another world out there, and in many ways it's a pretty good one. Thanks very much for this. Brought back a lot of memories of growing up in Kansas.

I would rather lose my money playing this than by gambling at any table in Vegas.

This is where I grew up. Warsaw. Geezee wow. I could be at that site all day. The photographs are great. Thanks for the link.

City folk had the three martini lunch. In my hometown it was all about pie. You covered the weather, how the folks were doing, throw in a little gossip in a hushed voice and an arched eyebrow, turn and greet when you hear the screen door open. Then, whatever business at hand over lunch on ceramic plates. Followed by a handshake and pie. Maybe lemon (if there's any left). The meringue has formed little amber beads in the heat.

Awesome. 14 possible Mefi meetup locations! Now excuse me while I go book a ticket to the US of A for that road trip I've been planning.

OK, let me be the fart in the room: there are too many photographs online. I wish the digital camera had never been invented.
