if there's any poetry in the world, when I get back to work on Monday, the anthurium plant that I named after him will have blossomed.

Unlikely, but it'd be pretty sweet.

I'm shocked. I always loved Don Ho. Especially on his old tv show when he would tell old women to reach for things in his pant pockets... frisky guy that Don. ;)

Let's all sing along, shall we?

Johnny Hart, 4/7
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., 4/11
Don Ho, 4/14

Okay. So celebrities don't really die in threes. I'm just sayin'...

Oh, no, Bookhouse - not Box!
Box: Regular storage procedure. The same as the other food. The other food stopped coming. And they started.
Logan 5: What other food?
Box: Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. It's all here, ready. Fresh as harvest day. Fish and sea greens, plankton and protein from the sea. And then it stopped coming. And they came instead. So I store them here. I'm ready. And you're ready. It's my job. To freeze you. Protein, plankton...

If there's going to be a singalong, rather than "Tiny Bubbles", a better choice might be Don's other great signature tune, "I'll Remember You". Both were written by his friend Kui Lee, who died far far too young.

Aloha nui loa, Don. Tell Kui and Skippy and Iz and Gabby and Hilo Hattie and Alfred and Auntie Irmgard and Leonard and Dennis and all da rest we miss you buggahs!

The Beatles vs. Don Ho
posted by jonp72 at 11:05 AM on April 15, 2007

I have a photo of myself with Don Ho, taken in March 2005, right after his dinner show. I display it proudly on my desk. Everyone who comments on it always says the same thing: "What a great photo. Is that your grandma?" No, that's Don Ho.

RIP, Don.

We were in Honolulu this past summer and my Big Island Revealed book had less thank kind things to say about a recent performance of Ho. They said something like "he wasn't in a state to perform", which I thought meant he was blotto or something. It was kind of too bad 'cause I was taking the wife through my childhood tourist haunts, of which Ho (and the similarly defunct Aliis) were one.
