Cool, Scott Ian's in the vid.

Laffs. Thanks pmeasley! If you get Brian's new comedy CD, this song is a bonus, woven in with a little Bob Odenkirk/Titanica skit.

I liked the unhappy puppies in a cage. So emo.

The delivery of the wife's first line was pretty spot on as well: 'Honey, you're an idiot, why don't you do it?'

And unfortunately the whole sentiment of the music video is true. Metal is as commercialised as pop and there are as many (if not more) cookie-cutter bands that appeal to the demographic.

Which is why I laugh when they book some emo band to play the same stage as Slayer at a festival. And then the 13-year olds waiting for the GC gig get physically and psychologically traumatised in the Slayer slam pit.

Brian Posehn was the only decent part of the Sara Silverman program. I happened to catch the one where he tried Tab and couldn't stop laughing. I tried watching a few of the the other episodes, but not enough Brian, too much Sara for my taste.

as for the video... totally spot on... loved it.

I feel a deep kinship to Brian Posehn, I think he is a fine poster person for the adult metal child demographic.

My favorite bit is the cut-away scene in the middle of the song:

Dad: What is this garbage you're watching? I want to watch the news.

Kid: This IS the news!

Dad watches for a few seconds.

Dad: That's not the news, it's a music video!

Dad chucks remote at kid's head.

Somewhere in Norway/ West Hollywood.

Fantastic. I only wish I didn't read some of the youtube comments. Nothing ruins a wondrously hilarious video quite like troglodytes quipping about fags.

Don't ever read youtube comments. Ever.

I love Brians role in the Sarah Silverman Program. My favourite gay television character ever.

I do wish he committed to the vocals a bit more, but its still pretty brilliant.

But most important: Youtube comments = bad. Always. And forever.

From this post I learned about the term "screamo" and a little part of me died inside.

Yeah, I try never to read YouTube comments either. When I do, I am reminded that there's still a lot of homophobia out there, which isn't as apparent to me otherwise. It's small consolation however, that most of the more hateful comments are written by 14-year old closet cases who will probably come out in a decade or so.

Whenever I read YouTube comments, I'm startlingly aware that there's a ghost girl with a Hawaiian word carved in her back who will forever haunt my closet if I don't pass on what I just read.

That's pretty great. (This song isn't as metaxcellent, but covers a bit of the same ground. Plus its got a gorgeous girl.)

eh, there's plenty of real, quality metal out there. You just have to stick with the underground.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. It's only 7 months old. What happened to finding out about things first on MetaFilter?

"You're the news!"

Oh, I love this video. I've been regularly using the line "YOU'RE THE NEWS!" as my favorite lame comeback for quite some time now.

7 months is a fucking infant, dude.
posted by psmealey at 11:05 AM on April 19, 2007

On the internet, infants=senior citizens.

Also, I was wondering who the hell signed my adult swim postcard. I had no idea who "Bin Pascal" was.

That's friggin great! :)

I remember back in the hair band days a band came out that just totally made fun of the whole thing, an entire album worth of ragging on stupid formulaic music.

We used to make brutal, merciless fun of any band that rhymed "fire, higher, desire" in a song... which covered a lot of ground, heh.

They had one song where they just sang various tongue-twisters like "Betty bought a bit of better butter" and "Peter Piper picked a peck of peppers," with the pre-chorus lyrics being "Blah blah blah, blah blah blah BLAH blah blah."

I forget the name of the band, but I loved that. Sadly, such lyrics will not help me find them on Google...

Rock on, Brian!

As far as the music goes it's okay like but it's not like it's Mucky Pup or something. Scatterbrain, maybe, but not Mucky Pup.

If you'll forgive me for dropping a little old school indie rock into the thread, here's the video for Yo La Tengo's "Sugarcube", which also stars some of the Mr. Show guys (alas, no Brian Posehn). It's also quite funny.

That was Scatterbrain, Tastes Just Like Chicken. Probably best known for this little number. They were formerly Ludichrist (more or less), and they're reuniting briefly for two shows in NY / NJ at the end of this very month.
posted by Wolfdog at 12:52 PM on April 19, 2007

Hey, wow thanks Wolfdog! I was rackin' me brain for the name of that band. Now I'm like, duh, seen them live and everything, I thought they were great. I drank a lotta beer back then...

Bummer I live in LA, NY/NJ is my where I'm from. I'd go see 'em if I were there...

Damn, if Brian Posehn isn't the ugliest man allowed on my television. The sad part is that is most likely his real wife.

Gary Shandling still holds that title, I believe.

"YOU'RE MetaTalk!"
Peace Sells video, since I haven't seen anyone else link to it. Countdown to the Extinction of that youtube video, now that I've linked it on MetaFilter, please.
