The Leahy video is from mid-January. I haven't been able to find any evidence that the promised briefing ever occurred; however, it's notable that even after his chewing-out, Gonzales insisted on keeping Arar on the watch list. but yeah, VT is OK.

Massachooosetts can and will kick little ol' Maine's lobstery ass back to Canada. Well, we used to own their lobstery ass! After the British pushed the French out of Maine (aka Acadia) and north into the Canadian Maritimes in the 17th. century, Maine was under British control. After a couple of land grant patents it became part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Maine was granted statehood in 1820 as part of the Missouri Compromise.

I like Vermont as a friend, but I may let them get to third base if the state House follows suit. This may take some fancy footwork, since the speaker of the House, a Democrat, is dead set against impeachment. The president of the Senate, Peter Shumlin, has his sights set on the governor's office, and was not terribly keen on having this vote, either. But being from the most liberal corner of the state, Brattleboro, he yielded to constituent pressure. Bottom line: I'd be surprised if there's any further action on this.

We moved to Vermont just under two years ago because after numerous visits it was always hard to leave the land of clear thinking and go back to the rest of the U.S. Some of the best stuff I've seen was at the 4th of July Parade in Warren, VT. I'll apologize for the self link, but here are some pictures. Not the sort of thing you see at a typical patriotic parade.

Fuck Leahy. He talked all tough when he was out of power but now with the gavel in his hand he's acting like a fucking lamb just like every other democrat. If he had any balls he would have cold-cocked Cheney when he told him to fuck off. Democrats have significant evidence to impeach Bush (he started building up for the war in Iraq before even requesting permission from Congress - that alone is an impeachable offense). Bush/Cheney is the greatest crook in American political history and they refuse to impeach because they're worried about it undermining their chances in '08. Whores the lot of them. No way Bush lasts this long if they weren't.

Ok, I'm a little late to this thread because I work a lot and I was suspect of the title that this might be some sort of tourist BS. But no. VERMONT AND PROUD, G-DDAMNIT! We were the first to outlaw slavery, we declared war on Germany BEFORE the bombing of Pearl Harbor (fun fact I learned while playing Trivial Pursuit, oddly enough), we're the first state with civil unions, and now this! Too bad we're also the only state that has ever had more cows than people *sigh.* I say "we" and I don't even live there anymore. I was born there though, and that's the most important factor in making a Vermonster. Ask anyone. Howard Dean may have been lieutenant governor for a thousand years, but we'll still point out that he's from Connecticut. VERMONT FOREVAR! (I often refer to Vermont as the I.R.V. - the Independent Republic of Vermont and people who are unfamiliar with the peculiarities of the state wonder why. But basically, it's its own country.)
