(PS: That blog post says their album is not available in the US. This is lies, I work for Borders and I know we carry it because the cover of "Wuthering Heights" on the overhead was what made me post this in the first place. I had been hearing more traditional covers all day, and all of a sudden... is that KATE FREAKING BUSH? My ears nearly bugged out of my head. Anyhow. Yes. Borders at least carries the album.) posted by grapefruitmoon at 9:25 PM on April 21, 2007
I love this stuff. :)
I have to admit, there's one thing I find somehow missing in people who try to do the 40s style harmonies now... and that's their presentation doesn't have the same feel of deceitfully effortlessly-seamless unison that the old groups had. I find myself always aware that there are three people singing, where as when I hear The BoswellSisters or Andrews Sisters, they just feel so much like one voice and are so TIGHT musically that I'm perpetually in awe. I just love that stuff though... so cool. Thanks. posted by miss lynnster at 9:48 PM on April 21, 2007
Swing died 10 years ago. Can't we just let it rest in peace? posted by DonnieSticks at 12:30 AM on April 22, 2007
These were pretty good grapefruitmoon. But these sisters were quirkier, and had tighter harmonies. Scroll down to the today show appearance - tight. posted by vronsky at 4:41 AM on April 22, 2007
1940s style music died 10 years ago, you say? Awwww, you're so adorable. posted by miss lynnster at 7:35 AM on April 22, 2007
Kate Bush, excellent taste. I do believe I'm going to have to buy this CD. posted by adipocere at 8:41 AM on April 22, 2007
i_cola: Thanks for that, it's awesome. One of my coworkers and I frequently "sing" the Super Mario Bros. song at work - next time someone makes fun of us for it, I will remind them that it's an "art piece, from Japan." posted by grapefruitmoon at 4:56 PM on April 22, 2007
