I think the part that really did it for me was in the second one when he used dogs' "angry" reaction to a caped intruder to conclude that Robin must have been up to shenanigans in that house. Quite the leap, Batman!

(I mean, seriously... next they'll expect us to laugh at a highschool production of Romeo and Juliet for being awkward and amateurish. Seems, I dunno, kind of cheap to get your kicks that way. That 40-something guy in the Tron outfit without a jock strap or any obvious mental illness? Mock-worthy. Cosplay comic geeks having fun with mom's video camera? Ehhhhh. But, then again, I didn't find Star Wars Kid all that funny for the same reason, so my sense of humor may not be as finely honed as the cruel innarweb requires. I do like youtube videos of people hurting themselves by accident, though.)

I kept waiting for the part where they did something that was totally awful. It just kept being... okay. They memorized their lines and set up shots and edited it down to something palatable. The sound was bad and the fights were unconvincing, but overall this was okay.

Right, it's amateurish. And, prima facie it is not, uh, humor (I don't think ) but there is an economy in evidence that I appreciated. It was ridiculous and embarrassing, but it was not dull. It had a nice oakey finish ( sorry,sorry /wine-tasting-inanity/pomposity) Also, ditto the boingboing note: I don't like their hyperbole, I always hear it as an exclusive, "If you don't like this you're a dick. Unlike us. Who are cool." which prompts me to not go there. Now I wonder maybe if I had presented the post differently... No, fuckIt. I laughed like an ass, YMMV.

I wonder what this is about... YouTube is blocked by my employer (200,000+ workstations) and several other humongous corporations (according to friends), so a little descriptive text is a big help. There was something sweet about it. My favorite part was the groove-out dancing at the end with heros and villans alike on the front page. I'd love to see a video about the making of this and what exactly they had in mind or drove them to it. I think that would be a blast. If I'd been involved, I would've had stomach cramps from watching this, but as an outside viewer, well ... not so much. It was sorta painful at points (sorry guys). Anyhow, I think people should stop watching stupid super hero blockbusters and make their own for their own enjoyment and that of their friends. So I give this a thumbs up for effort.

Ain't much meta about this sort of posting. And just the faintest smidgen of filtering. e.g. a post containing several links to various homemade productions of superhero flicks might be more in the spirit of the place. *shutting up*

It's good to see that after so many years of wallowing in obscurity, home movies and amateur short subject films finally have venues where they can be showcased via the Internet. I am beginning to find myself leaning toward the opinion that MeFi, while it is one of those venues, may need to be that a little less. Or rather, when someone wants to MeFi a video, perhaps they should do more checking and find other videos like that one. So the original post isn't just one or two youtube links, but that it becomes a thread which informs its audience of a new or deserving niche or genre in this often overlooked field of interest. ...Or. Y'know. Just post whatever's funny. Matt may wish to consider adding to MeFi a separate section that focuses solely on video links, like MeFi Music but for video. That way, The Blue can go back to doing what it does best: NewsFilter! *ducks*

I had a friend who once seriously talked about writing an indie Batman short film. But his Batman was some fat guy sitting in a bar drinking and telling people that he was in fact Batman. I'm sure if that ever was made it would be better than this. But perhaps just thinking about it for a moment is better than this.

Stuff like this is interesting to me because it shows such ranges of appreciation. The poster went so far as to call it "perfection" and "genius". Many in the thread considered it mildly funny. Others considered it completely without humor of any kind. I think if nothing else this should give an appreciation for creating humorous content for consumption by strangers, and probably speaks to why most things on television and at the movies are so conservative and bland. You think of humor being somewhat universal, but quite obviously any time a humor thread comes up on MeFi, you see quickly it is not at all universal.

But I can see why this post would set people up not to laugh. Wrong setup, establishing expectations that aren't met.

hmm, bad audio, dark video, pat delivery of lines, I still liked it more than what I did see of Batman and Robin. Maybe it was efforts like this that convinced the studio to resurrect the franchise? Throw in a few impossibly weird sets, rotate the camera 15 degrees, and edit in some BAM POW's to cover up the fact that you're not actually hitting the other guy, and Bob's your uncle. Having said that, I laughed when I heard the line near the end as "We did it, a-hole chum?"

An insightful review from "pskinjob" in the YT comments: At first I was thinking that Robin was kind of useless, he didn't fight well, and was slow. But he ended up saving Batman's life. And he was so fired up he wanted to kill the Riddler, that Batman had to tell him to step off. Good story about them developing teamwork.

You think of humor being somewhat universal, but quite obviously any time a humor thread comes up on MeFi, you see quickly it is not at all universal. Yep. It's a given that what some people find gut-crampingly funny, others do not. I really do wonder how this is funny, for those who laughed at it a lot, just from a research-about-humans standpoint. I'm not better or cleverer or more urbane or anything of the kind because it didn't come near my funny bone, it's just that it amazes me a little that different people could have such radically different experiences of the funny. I don't think the video was meant to be humourous, was it? If that's true, is the laugh-factor laughing at the film makers? Or is it that kind of squirmy, embarrassed, laughing-out-of-discomfort kind of humour? I don't know. I don't get it, but I wish I did. And that's entirely too much thinking about this.

Joe loved it so much that he tracked down the guy who made it and interviewed him: Joe: How long did it take you to cook up a script? Kourosh: I some ideas in my head about what direction I wanted the film to go in. I really wanted to make a serious movie, in the style of Batman Begins. I had a lot planned out in my head that never happened. But when we all got together the whole thing was just too fun and we started improvising and doing all kinds of crazy stuff. It obviously lost its serious tone. It ended up being more like Batman Forever. Joe: Were you happy with the results? Kourosh: I have to say we were happy with the results. While it wasn't the film I originally had in mind, it was a lot of fun and people always laugh when they see it. Someone said it's like Napolean Dynamite, since it gets funnier everytime you watch it. Joe: How long was the production time for this film? Kourosh: 4 hours

If only the filmmakers focused more on the giant sand pile, the abandoned hospital, the fight to save the apartments from habitat restoration, or the unusual concentration of dentists in the neighborhood, it could have been really funny.
