The next must have tech gadget is on its way this fall. Sure it probably weighs 50 pounds, but it's just too damn sweet not to get.

Freaky, Dick Tracy is finally for real. Although, how stupid would you look talking to your watch? Personally, I prefer samsung's other object of tech lust and convergence: the mp3 playing phone. Way more useful than a mp3+watch combo.

"it's just too damn sweet not to get" I dunno, personally, I have no desire to spend that much money on a cell phone/watch combo. My $10 watch and $80ish cell phone do me just fine.

I doubt I would ever spend so much money on such a thing. I've never even owned a beeper, much less a cellphone-watch. I think all too often people find themselves alone and quickly whip out their phone and dial a friend. Time alone is good, and I enjoy walking down the street, deep in my own thought.

At last, a 'Two Way Wrist Radio'. All it needs is a little sign with an arrow pointing to it. This seems most unfeasable - there's a headphone jack, so I presume you'll have a wire running from your ear to your wrist. Awkward, to be sure. Now if it offered some sort of wireless connection to a little speaker/microphone that one might wear on the ear, that'd be somthing cool indeed.

Hm. My cell phone already has a clock -- I'll take that form of "convergence" over a wristwatch with a teeny battery that probably yields 10 minutes of talk time.

Makes me think of the calculator watch I bought back in Junior high in 1980 - that was a piece of "convergence" tech as well, being A) a great attention-getter, B) a huge watch, C) a full calculator with teensy silver buttons, D) a stopwatch, and E) a 'video game' called 'invaders' where numbers marched progressively faster across the screen and you had to press the button to 'destroy' it before it reached the other side. No, you couldn't use it as a phone, but then again, cell phones weren't around much in those days (My God, it's been over 20 years since I was in Junior High!)

My ideal pub would be constructed with materials impenetrable to electromagnetic waves and noise. The only uncurtained windows would face out on to a green back garden open only to long-time customers who could be trusted never to carry a cell phone out there. The pub would have no television, no video screens of any kind, and no stereo. There would be one land-line telephone (in a back room) for business use. Music (unamplified) would be provided by local students and buskers willing to play for tips and drinks. Good manners and close dancing would be encouraged. Rude drunks would be ejected. And any idiot wearing a watch like this would just be wearing a really big, ugly watch.

Hey! I have a calculator watch now, and I use it all the time. And people still freak out and think it's strange. Sigh.
