That's pretty amazing. Something Awful's photoshop phridays are frequently funny, but rarely do you see this kind of quality in the work.

Their Groundhog Day one made me realize what a creepy f-ing horror movie you could make with that plot.
A guy repeats the same day over and over, and after realizing that no future=no accountability, proceeds to do more and more depraved shit. Eventually, it ends with his realizing that no matter how depraved and awful he becomes or how many times he dies, he'll keep coming back to that same day for all eternity. The end.

Ndwright, Until, in the twist ending, it's revealed it's all an elaborate simulation run by aliens probing his mind, and the aliens use the test to justify destroying Earth. Or maybe he's allowed to keep coming back to that same day for all eternity until he finally kills God, and the next morning, when he wakes up, it's tomorrow.

Isn't this already pretty much the plot of the movie? He robs a bank. He lies to women in order to sleep with them. He nearly kills two guys on a train track. He commits suicide over and over again. It is a horror movie.

The tv show Day Break was sorta like a dark version of Groundhog Day, and they had started to hint that some very violent things could go on in a recursive loop.
Unfortunately the show was canceled before they could really explore the idea.
I seem to recall there was an episode of Stargate SG1 that played with the concept as well.

Like quin said, PP is usually good for a couple of laughs (Or screams - scroll down, but don't say I didn't warn you), but there's some really great work in there.

I don't think there as much creativity in taking dark/thrill sort of films (like Natural Born killers) compared to lighter fare like Toy Story.

This is awesome, up to the standard of SA's Photoshop Phriday of 4-5 years ago, I think.
But, am I the only one annoyed that people start calling this particular "genre" "grindhouse films"? It's one name for it, sure, although many of the films were never properly shown in grindhouse cinemas. The correct name is "exploitation film", or, if you want to get really academic, "paracinema".
But I'm a film nerd. Great stuff, though.

Here's an even cooler idea for a speculative fiction novel: Every day repeats for every person If you die, you just get reset the next day like a video game. What would society be like? I think it would be pretty bizarre.
I probably wouldn't do anything too crazy, out of fear that this day would be the last.

Gosford Park wins overall for sensationalizing--but accurately so--the plot of an otherwise meticulously slow and virtually unresolved film.

That would have been typical for the era. Most of the time the films behind these posters were massively disappointing, slow-paced cheesy shlock with effects (if you can call them that) so bad that even a willing suspension of disbelief wouldn't help. Some of them literally so bad that even MST3K couldn't use them, decades later, because they literally weren't even worth making fun of. But beyond that, they were occasionally completely deceptive to no less a degree than these are; i.e. the film, when you went to see it, was some failed attempt at a drama or comedy so hopeless it would embarrass a film student, and the posters hastily made up in the hopes of getting a few dollars out of it.
