This is, perhaps, the greatest thing I've ever seen.

Best so far: "When Harry Met Sally" and "Back to the Future" (INCEST!)

Make sure you go all the way to the end. "The Big Lebowski" poster is fucking great. Seriously, I'd frame that mother and hang it on my wall.

Erin Brockovich- "A Whole Town Drinking Liquid Death!"

Thanks, delmoi, these are fantastic. (& someone needs to get a full sized blow-up of "Milo And Otis" for Jonson, our resident pug-lover.)

Barry Lyndon on page 4 was very amusing.

The JFK one is just gorgeous. Really captures the late-50s Hitchcock-look.

In theaters soon...If they let us show you the truth!

Does the text on the Requiem for a Dream poster (second page) do crazy things to your eyes? It's moving all over the place for me.

"Shot with a Lens Aperture So Wide They Said It Could Never Be Filmed!" -Barry Lyndon

-- that was really my favorite. Along with "Source-Lit Sleaze Fest!"

"The 5th is the most terrifying of all!" -- Slaughterhouse 5
"Gruesome themes of free will!" ibid
"Science!! Incest!! Rape Gangs!! Jazz!!" -- BTTF
"A movie so controversial that even its original title was declared unfit for publication in the United States!" -- Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone
"Uninteresting cows!" -- Milo and Otis (the only good joke in that one)

And as others have discovered before, you can't parody Natural Born Killers.

That's pretty amazing. Something Awful's photoshop phridays are frequently funny, but rarely do you see this kind of quality in the work.

There is some, honestly stunning work here.

Their Groundhog Day one made me realize what a creepy f-ing horror movie you could make with that plot.

A guy repeats the same day over and over, and after realizing that no future=no accountability, proceeds to do more and more depraved shit. Eventually, it ends with his realizing that no matter how depraved and awful he becomes or how many times he dies, he'll keep coming back to that same day for all eternity. The end.

Is it wrong that after seeing that I want a SA account?
posted by Richard Daly at 4:03 PM on May 5, 2007

Ndwright, Until, in the twist ending, it's revealed it's all an elaborate simulation run by aliens probing his mind, and the aliens use the test to justify destroying Earth. Or maybe he's allowed to keep coming back to that same day for all eternity until he finally kills God, and the next morning, when he wakes up, it's tomorrow.

Nah, your idea's probably better.

Isn't this already pretty much the plot of the movie? He robs a bank. He lies to women in order to sleep with them. He nearly kills two guys on a train track. He commits suicide over and over again. It is a horror movie.

The tv show Day Break was sorta like a dark version of Groundhog Day, and they had started to hint that some very violent things could go on in a recursive loop.

Unfortunately the show was canceled before they could really explore the idea.

I seem to recall there was an episode of Stargate SG1 that played with the concept as well.

He doesn't rape anyone. He doesn't torture anyone. He doesn't commit multiple-murder. And rape, torture, and multiple-murder are just scratching the surface of the horrors that could be undertaken in a world with zero accountability.

Like quin said, PP is usually good for a couple of laughs (Or screams - scroll down, but don't say I didn't warn you), but there's some really great work in there.

CitrusFreak12: I see a lot of Feast of Flesh in there, and Google turned up this SA thread, which has more images and discussion.

I don't think there as much creativity in taking dark/thrill sort of films (like Natural Born killers) compared to lighter fare like Toy Story.

This is awesome, up to the standard of SA's Photoshop Phriday of 4-5 years ago, I think.

But, am I the only one annoyed that people start calling this particular "genre" "grindhouse films"? It's one name for it, sure, although many of the films were never properly shown in grindhouse cinemas. The correct name is "exploitation film", or, if you want to get really academic, "paracinema".

But I'm a film nerd. Great stuff, though.

Here's an even cooler idea for a speculative fiction novel: Every day repeats for every person If you die, you just get reset the next day like a video game. What would society be like? I think it would be pretty bizarre.

I probably wouldn't do anything too crazy, out of fear that this day would be the last.

Gosford Park wins overall for sensationalizing--but accurately so--the plot of an otherwise meticulously slow and virtually unresolved film.

Honorable mention to Back to the Future for "JAZZ!!"

People are going to be so disappointed when they go see Bambi.

That would have been typical for the era. Most of the time the films behind these posters were massively disappointing, slow-paced cheesy shlock with effects (if you can call them that) so bad that even a willing suspension of disbelief wouldn't help. Some of them literally so bad that even MST3K couldn't use them, decades later, because they literally weren't even worth making fun of. But beyond that, they were occasionally completely deceptive to no less a degree than these are; i.e. the film, when you went to see it, was some failed attempt at a drama or comedy so hopeless it would embarrass a film student, and the posters hastily made up in the hopes of getting a few dollars out of it.
