I would actually vote for her if she used Van Halen's "Everybody Wants Some" as her campaign theme. Especially if she licensed the claymation hamburger from Better Off Dead for her campaign commercials. Then again, sometimes I feel like the America I want to live in would not necessarily be a better America, so much as a more personally amusing one.

The Smash Mouth "I'm A Believer" is interesting. It's a bad cover for a cartoon movie soundtrack of a song originally recorded by a band manufactured for a TV show. Very American. But none of those songs are that inspiring. I'd think "Don't Stop Believin'" would be most likely to get you elected, followed by "Carry On Wayward Son," "The Final Countdown," and maybe some Pat Benatar. Also Styx's "Lady." Attention any presidential campaign: use any of those songs and you get all my votes! For serious I will vote for Rudy Giuliani if he goes up on stage and gets everyone at the convention to belt out some Journey. But I doubt that will happen, so I'm going to bust balls and submit Propagandhi's "Stick the Fucking Flag Up Your Goddam Ass, You Sonofabitch."

Y'know, I expected this to be a bunch of the ol' standbys, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Temptations' Get Ready is a great, great song. So is I'll Take You There by The Staple Singers. And I have undue fondness for Right Here, Right Now and Beautiful Day (though I could stand to hear Beautiful Day a little less often). Not that it matters since I'm not a citizen so I can't vote. And if I could vote, it probably wouldn't matter since I live in Rhode Island.

I'm not getting all the hating either rolypolyman. I get annoyed by Hillary's triangulation but I got annoyed by the same thing with Bill. She's very smart and from what I've read is one of the hardest working members of the Senate. I'd vote for Obama or Gore first but she's still 10 times better than any of the nutcases that the Republicans are running.

What's with all the animosity against Hillary? Well, despite the semi-novelty of being female and therefor appearing "different" she's actually a very well established member of the ruling elite. Think about it: Bush, Clinton, Bush... Clinton? If Hillary's elected and lasts two terms that would mean 28 years of governance by two families leading one to speculate America may not actually be the egalitarian merit-based democracy it's supposed to be. Out of 1/3 of a billion people, the last two presidents just happen to be the son of a president and the wife of a president?

I get annoyed by Hillary's triangulation but I got annoyed by the same thing with Bill. Hillary doesn't triangulate, she mostly avoids taking a principled stance on any issue, while trying desperately to maintain the appearance of gravitas and statesmenlike bearing. In other words, she's a US Senator. I worked on the Clinton campaign for Senate in 2000, and I never understood the roiling animosity that underpinned the attacks against her upstate. At the time, I had attributed it to equal parts good old fashioned misogyny combined with an extension of hatred of Bill, fomented by the GOP for the previous 8 years. But, having seen her in action the past seven years, though, I think it might be something else. Though I'm sure that she has some core issues that she feels passionately about, in public speech, on the stump, she comes across as arrogant, entitled and insincere. Everything she says, she does in measured, scripted and pre-tested tones, and (like George W. Bush in 2000) she projects that the wants to be President because, well, it just makes sense to her, and btw, she just deserves it. Bill, by contrast, had that "thing", that special combination of charisma and humility that enabled him to connect with people in the audience, on TV, etc. She has neither. I think Hillary has been a serviceable Senator for the great state of New York (despite her ridiculous and inexplicable position on the Iraq war) and I'd very much like to see her continue there.
