These men are too well acquainted with the chase to be flung off by any false steps or doubles. They grab the swf from the big sites and pack it in their own flash player, makes it impossible to d/l using videodownloader. The wrapper makes it harder for copyright searchers to just c/d the links on the site.

Oh man, I love you, but you know it can't last... There are means to enjoy this material other than piracy. Here's the funny thing. In the UK people pay this tv license thing, right? Well, as it happens, not an insignificant number of these UK citizens are living abroad, working or studying or whatnot. Not an insignificant subset of these are still paying their license at home. But they can't watch their favourite tv shows unless they're prepared to a) go to some lengths in terms of installing big badass satellite dishes and pay a lot of extra money to Mr Murdoch for this, even if in paper that's also not allowed outside UK territory due to broadcasting restrictions, nevermind complicated in rented accomodation or b) wait for some kind soul to upload them in torrents and then download them. Not an insignificant number of Americans are also in this situation but at least they don't have to pay a tv license back home. Although if they're away for a relatively short time they may also be paying for cable back home and so on. So please let's just shove the 'piracy' talk where the sun don't shine and enjoy what the tv execs should already be providing as a service to registered users at least (and actually the BBC and Channel 4 do this already, but because of those broadcasting restrictions you have to be in the UK to access free on demand tv on the internet, which kind of defeats the point because if you're in the UK and you want to watch tv so bad, you already have a tv and a recorder).

Even so, I think it's preposterous for a third party to make money from advertising on a site that illegally distributes somebody else's copyrighted material. However, websites such as these raise the bar when it comes to making packaged content available. Why wait for a re-run or a dvd in the mail when you can get it right now illegally? And in this sense, the current industry paradigm will have to adapt.

I pay for satellite TV in the US and have to by an enhanced package to get BBC-America and for that I get endless reruns of Cash in the Attic, an hour of BBC news, and a heaping helping of Footballer's Wives (which I loathe). I've corresponded seemingly endlessly to get access to more of the programming that's right here on this great collection site. I hope that broadcasters get hip to this sort of narrowcasting and develop a new delivery model so that phaedon's concerns are answered, but mine also. Let me program my viewing--I'm paying through the nose for TV now anyway, let me watch this (unknown to me previously) Louis Theroux, let me watch Rising Damp instead of more reruns of Raymond. Don't let TV broadcasting devolve into the morass and battle that the recorded music industry fell to with the advent of p2p, where well-intnetioned people are forced to choose between piracy and idiocy. I have HBO and don't give a rat's ass about the Sopranos.

It's an AWESOME pirated video site- Christ, this pretty much redefines the definition of piracy given its scale- but can people stop it with the oh-so-badass soliloquies about how shitty the broadcast system is like that and just admit it one of these days? I hate these fights because it makes me sound like some anti-filesharing corporate hack which simply isn't true (just finished watching the latest Doctor Who last night!), but the faux-naivete about all this is like a rusted screwdriver in the eye. I love sites like this, especially for overseas programs, but I'd give it all up if it means never hearing holier-than-thou whining about how the corporate machine doesn't "get it" as some excuse to violate copyright law. Che Guevara was a revolutionary. We're stealing Veronica Mars reruns. Face reality, comrade.

hey, you with the coolest username in the whole internet (really, it is)! projecting a little? where did you see all these sermons and revolutionary dereclarations of war against the corporate machine blah blah? of course it is all just a matter of convenience and tv shows! we're einverstanden there, dude! Since you quoted me, I'll say what I meant in clearer words: in case you didn't notice, the shows on that site, including US tv shows, are all available on non-subscription UK channels. It so happens I'm one of those who's already legally paying for legal access to all this, yipppee, but at the moment I can't have that access, because I'm not in the UK. This is said as matter of fact, with no holier-than-thou intent whatsoever, as I really don't give a monkey's if this is piracy! It's just brilliant to be able to see all this stuff anywhere I am, stuff which, incidentally but not so incidentally, I'm already paying for! Simple as that. However, because this is a common situation many expats find themselves in, if your majesty grants me permission to express an opinion about this, I do actually think it would be a smart thing if the broadcasters found a way to provide this for those users who already pay that tv license. Much like those channels already do, but based on a registration system, rather than a geographical location detection system. Other countries do this already. Thank you for your extra attention this time! now everybody go and partake of your daily David Attenborough, amen.

smackfu: it's not silly, it's required as long as you still have a home somewhere in the UK with a registered tv in it. Your family or spouse or flatmates may be using it while you're away, or you're subletting the place, whatever, but it's not a rare situation at all.

Same thing auf Deutschland. Blew me away when we first got the notice, they wanted to know how many radios we had (which smacks of some kind of fascism). I was telling me mother about it and she set me right straight. The U.S., that's the anomaly. I think pleeker's point is a very interesting twist that you don't hear enough about.
