I am not a doctor nor a medical student but I found this site informative and fascinating nonetheless. I just wish they could update more often. posted by soundofsuburbia at 5:15 AM on May 24, 2007
Oh damn, I should probably have added that the first video on that site is called "Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery" and therefore it may be NSFW. posted by soundofsuburbia at 5:17 AM on May 24, 2007
Wow!
I personally love that the open heart surgery video had a soundtrack and narrator like some sort of fast food employee training video.
And it's damned interesting.
Awesome post. posted by CitrusFreak12 at 6:36 AM on May 24, 2007
Yeah, great post. I gotta do a bit of the old Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery tomorrow and it's been a while. Timely post. posted by mattoxic at 7:17 AM on May 24, 2007
This is awesome. Even though some of it makes me want to toss cookies. posted by dios at 7:24 AM on May 24, 2007
Okay -out of ten, then...how gross?
(i.e fairly serious enquiry, being both curious and pretty squeamish). posted by Jody Tresidder at 8:00 AM on May 24, 2007
I guess it depends on which you watch and what you can handle.
Think: abdomen wide open exposing internal organs with white-glove covered hands cutting and sucking stuff out. That kind of stuff. Or exposed hearts, etc. posted by dios at 8:02 AM on May 24, 2007
I should note there a lot of videos that aren't that graphic that might be ekgs or video lectures on topics. Those shouldn't make you squeamish at all. It's just the surgery videos that ick me out (and I say that as someone who frequently has to look at autopsy pictures). posted by dios at 8:06 AM on May 24, 2007
No way I'm going to click this so I'm not sure how similar it is, but: When I was a kid there was a show on Sunday afternoon that showed open heart surgery and suchlike. New England Journal of Medicine? posted by DU at 8:21 AM on May 24, 2007
