George R. Binks : The tragic story of Jar Jar's father! Posted here in "celebration" of the Star Wars anniversary. Written and drawn by Tony Millionaire! (Warning: frames. Link is to the pages in his e-commerce site, and two pages are missing, but you should be able to figure it out.)

I originally posted this in the Star Wars thread, but a hundred comments in, so I expect no one saw it. Anyway this is worthy of the front page, I reckon.

Someone send this to George Lucas.

I love Mr. Millionaire's work so very dearly. I assume you've all seen the Maakies pilot.

Jar Jar reminds me of the less successful Olympic mascots.

This was originally published in an issue of Star Wars Tales, a too-briefly-lived anthology series where lots of cartoonists. Issue 20 (which this was taken from) featured Millionaire, Peter Bagge, James Kolchaka, Gilbert Hernandez and Bob Fingerman.

"a too-briefly-lived anthology series where lots of cartoonists got their chance to play with Lucas's toys," I meant.

Does...does this mean this wonderful story is -- *gasp!* -- canon?!

Actually, Jar Jar is the only thing that makes me forgive every all the SW films besides the original.

I can't bring myself to do a Jar Jar Binks impression twice within 27 hours. So let me just say that his dad should've gone for the warrior chick. Settling is a bad bad thing... in this case leading the entire world to misery.

Hmm. How did I do that?

I can't believe this was an official publication. Brilliant! What kind of vetting process would this have gone through?

EMRJKC'94, if I have this publication pegged right, things like this were in it all the time. I strongly suspect it wasn't intended to be cannon.

Most of the comics and novels are supposed to be canon, although I don't know whether this means they're vetted by Lucas (I can't imagine he reads all this shit, but I guess you never know) or if he just generally approves the stuff if his people say it's okay.

(My fifteen-year-old cousin -- the source of 95% of my largely unwanted Star Wars universe knowledge -- could explain at exhaustive length how all the various media coalesce into one shimmering tapestry of nerddom, but I assure you as one who has endured many a long car ride with him when he's on: You DO NOT WANT.)
