Crawdaddy, one of the first rock criticism magazines, has made a comeback online, including some selected articles by the magazine's founder, Paul Williams. The SF Weekly has mixed feelings about the magazine's return. (via largehearted boy)

I think it was "the first", not just "one of the first" magazines with rock criticism. Before Crawdaddy!, nobody thought of rock as anything worthy of criticism. After Crawdaddy!, rock criticism was an industry.

Oh yeah. It was the first. I'll never forget the rush I got, reading my first, crudely copied, typewritten issue of Crawdaddy. You could feel a new era being born in your head. You cannot respect Crawdaddy enough for this. Rolling Stone and Robert Christgau drove "rock criticism" into the ground, but in those heady young days -- wow.
