To counter all the hype and misinformation about sharks killing people, and to highlight the plight that sharks as a species are currently suffering, I can do nothing better than to suggest you watch Sharkwater, an excellent documentary (minus the narrator's annoying Keanu Reaves voice) which apparently hasn't made it to the USA yet.

I decided quite some time ago that swimming in the ocean 'soup' of critters that bite, pinch & sting with variously unhappy results, the soup that mixes itself with killer currents and tides, is not really my gig.

Saw JAWS again recently. Great movie. A little dated due to fashions and things, but not too terribly bad. Of course, sharks aren't the only thing to remember come beach season, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

I remember one surfer or kayaker's account of his shark attack which read, "I was having trouble seeing out of one eye. Then I realized, my head is in the shark's mouth."
