I can't agree. The second is a real crowd-pleaser, no doubt about it, but I can't help but feel that the clarity and simplicity of the first, with its Ozu-like long takes and its plot developments all the more unexpected for being so few have been sacrificed to the easy lures of exciting chase scenes and added gadgetry. It's the Tarantinoization of Bumbo. I hope for a return to form in Bumbo III. posted by languagehat at 5:31 AM on June 23, 2007
