I can't agree. The second is a real crowd-pleaser, no doubt about it, but I can't help but feel that the clarity and simplicity of the first, with its Ozu-like long takes and its plot developments all the more unexpected for being so few have been sacrificed to the easy lures of exciting chase scenes and added gadgetry. It's the Tarantinoization of Bumbo. I hope for a return to form in Bumbo III. posted by languagehat at 5:31 AM on June 23, 2007
I like that early on in the first one the maker didn't quite have the technique down: things jumping in and out of frame, etc. Then it becomes much more polished as it goes along. posted by starman at 9:34 AM on June 23, 2007
That was vile. Disgusting larval stage human, check, one click special effects, check, stop motion animation, check, plot seeming written by an infant, check. Excuse me, I need to go wash my eyes out with porn. posted by Grod at 12:25 PM on June 23, 2007
