See Him In The Funny Papers

Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen: The Comic Book is coming to newsstands in two weeks, but you can see an entire 7-page Tek story at Entertainment Weakly Weekly's EWW EW.com. A little promotionally fluffy info. Of course, there has already been Tek Jansen fan fiction, but this is, like, authorized and pre-read by Stephen Himself.

What's a "natual skin tone" anyway?

Tom Peyer is a MeFi member isn't he?

“Smug Onion” is an awesom name for a bar.

It would have been even better if he'd arrived in a huge, sentient ship with a name like GSV So Much For Subtlety.

This is so weird... It's like he's writing my life story.

True. A real "Player" would've thought of that. Then again, GSV Size Isn't Everything.

I'm all over this like white on Colbert. I mean, I don't see color, but I assume he's white, because he's an anchorman.

On page 9, "political and miliary will"?

This looks great.

I think he should have left on a ship named GSV When Diplomacy Fails.

iamck, I think the misspellings are part of the joke. Or did you miss "natual" on the first page?

Not to say the comic doesn't have its merits, but Stephen Colbert could shit on a plate and everyone here would be clamoring to say how great it was and how it doesn't smell at all, not even a little bit.

I don't know... I think the response reflected in this thread has been no so much "Yippee!" "Bravo!" "May we grovel at your feet" as it is bringing up random phrases like "natural skin tone" and "political and military will" and saying HUH?

Essentially, underthinking so severely, nobody can tell if it's a plate of beans OR a plate of shit.

where's the funny? i gave up the page before last, it's just trying too hard. funny isn't something that can really be trademarked and slapped on whatever will sell, like star wars or something. his timing and nuance is what makes it work, reading someone else that's trying to emulate it just isn't all that compelling. i give it six months before it's dead in the water.

andywolf, go back and read the last page. The final panel is the clearest joke there.

"what is natural skin tone" and why sentient ship with a name like GSV So Much For Subtlety. Why?

Stephen Colbert came to my house and shit on one of my plates, and all I got was this lousy comic book.

I'm thinking the GSV stuff is an Ian M. Banks Culture-series reference, but I'm as lost as anyone on the rest of it. Fracking dialup.
