The case against marriage

"I'm never getting married." Citing her dislike of engagement rings, bachelor parties, and obligatory marital sex, self-described feminist blogger Jill Filipovic swears off marriage, at least until she finishes law school. Some agree; others take a contrary view.
This post was deleted for the following reason: Uh, that's great for her, but this isn't a very good post for Metafilter. -- cortex

The one thing about law students is they never shut up about law school.
It seems to define them in a weird, cultish sort of way.

Also, I'm a self-described nordic death-magic-sex-god. Nobody cares what you self-describe as.

What do engagement rings or bachelor parties have to do with getting married?
The Wife and I had none of the standard stuff that goes along with a wedding and we seem to be doing pretty well.

Hmm, gotta trim the headline down a bit, but that about sums it up.

p.s. - marriage is only sexist against women if a woman marries a sexist. it is, in fact, legally binding sexism against men regardless of who the man marries.

That's nice for her that she has the choice to opt out. And to get throw a tantrum about it, too. God bless America!

NEWSFLASH: Some guys are assholes
I'm going to swear off marriage because girls in the past expected me to buy everything for them, treated me like I was disposable, or thought I was just an accessory that was supposed to nod while she talked about how much of a bitch this other girl was.
Oh, you mean I can keep looking for a nice girl? well, ok then, nevermind.

Entitled white boys used to be entertained by Italians and blacks. Now it’s naked women.
No, we've always found naked women very entertaining.

She's wrong. This is 2007. Nobody cares.

OOO, look at me! I'm so special! I don't fit the mold! Go Powerpuffs!
Seriously, has she not heard about the sexual revolution? The shit's been around for 50 years. There isn't a single anemic original thought in her blather.
My question is, why is this on Metafilter? Myeviltwin, as of April 2 there are estimated 428,182,264 web pages on the net. Surely you can find something more interesting than some brain farts of some chick in New York.

Shame she got the Clery act thing wrong about EMU. Having done some background interviews etc., there's a lot more to that case than will ever come out in the press, and the Ann Arbor News really did a hatchet job on EMU. (Sorry, her prior entry interested me more).

C'mon, Blazecock, you're free to opt out of marrying someone you don't love too, and could always choose a loveless, sexless life, if you wanted. (But yeah, the I'm-a-bold-unmarried-iconoclast thing does speak to heteronormativism, doesn't it?)
