Racist Christian "net filtering" yee-haw

It's been there since 2001. The debate continues: is netauthority.org legitimate or a hoax? If it's a hoax, it's one of the most successful web hoaxes of all time. People are still falling for it. (previously)

Its a hoax.

There are very few Christian orgs that will publicly denounce interracial marriage.

Publicly, of course.

Kind of like Conservapedia.

Internet Acceptable Use Policy

Posting information or content in any form on the Internet constitutes acceptance of and agreement to the Net Authority Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

That. And what effbot said. And I'm not seeing the "people are falling for it" part.

Except maybe the OP?

"Yeah, I run Net Authority. Yeah, it's a joke."

I'm not convinced. What if that's a metaphor for something. Like a viking.

People are debating this? Why?

The whois data for that site leads almost straight to the "it's a joke" page. No debate, it's a parody/troll site, but it's undeniably a pretty good one.

None of the first three links seem to present it as anything other than a hoax. I'm confused...? I'd look at the rest of the links to further cement my case, but I noticed that the "falling" link leads, um....'nowhere.'

It's a pretty boring hoax.

It leads to a Fark thread about the site, posted yesterday...they fell for it, at least for a while....

Funny how people only see black or white—it's either a hoax, or it's not a hoax.

There's such thing as subtlety, you know. Those on the religious right can satirise themselves. Something can have a serious intent and yet be light-hearted.

Anything that can evoke impure thoughts in the mind of the beholder is pornographic.
Have these people never been teenagers? Everything, but like I mean everything — squash, cashmere sweaters, Kierkegaard, elemental phosphorus — causes impure thoughts.

The logical conclusion is that we should delete the entire internet - which idea does have its merits, now I get around to saying it like that.

But....it is a hoax. What are you talking about? Can you show us even a single example of a site designed with serious intent by a religious person but done in this style that's not a hoax?

By far my favorite gem in their "database":
United States Patent and Trademark Office

Added: 07/05/2007 - 10:11:05

This website has been investigated by Net Authority, and has been found to be in violation of the Internet Acceptable Use Policy by posting the following kinds of content:

* Pornographic material
* Hateful material
* Blasphemy
* Offensive political material
* Bestiality and/or interracial relationships
Damn those patents! Won't someone think of the children?

(The sad part is that a site that has "Bestiality and/or interracial relationships" with a straight face can be taken seriously...)

How is this "still" an issue? Because of one post at Fark? Because all of that other stuff is at least 5 years old, man. So what are we left with, really?

A post at Fark.

Funny how people only see black or white—it's either a hoax, or it's not a hoax.

Allow me to introduce you to this plate of beans over here...
