I have hand-bound two books during my graphic design education and found it to be rewarding and fairly easy, though time consuming. Both were perfect-bound paperbacks: Book one—Beaver Ears, 33 pages, four colors—was an exploration of the cultural history, contemporary thought and proportional relationship of human ears. My second book—Finding Reason, 173 pages, one color—was a combination of the writings and 'proof of concept' for my senior thesis. Professor and designer Law Alsobrook is an accomplished book-binder and provides excellent instruction on it, though not online. Now—go forth and make books! (do I owe an apology for the self links?)
