I'm not so much in favour of hanging people who break arbitrary, foolish laws as just hanging people I don't like. And there's an awful lot of them....

He didn't get ten years for mismanaging his business; he got ten years for managing an *illegal* business. If they put people in jail for running a business badly, there'd be an awful lot of CEOs doing time.

well, he mismanaged something if he landed in jail for ten years, didn't he? does getting caught count as mismanagement when your business is inherently illegal?

We could run this one around in circles for a while, but the point I was trying to convey was that his business was making a lot of money, therefore he was managing it well; he went to jail because running a drug-smuggling ring is illegal. I suppose you could argue that not getting caught is an inherent part of managing an illegal business, but I was speaking of management in terms of turning a profit.

It's not hard to turn a profit moving drugs...that's probably one of the obscure reasons/consequences as to why it is illegal. I think not getting caught for as long as he did would translate into good managing as well as smart distribution. Keypoint: Always have a fall guy. Always use a PO Box ;-)
