AWESOME. I saw this on MTV (really, MTV. Weird, huh?) in the 1980s and had completely forgotten it. God bless you, homunculus. posted by jonson at 3:23 PM on July 30, 2007 [1 favorite]
I blogged about i two days ago... how sad. There is a little better version on Google Video. posted by Bibi at 3:30 PM on July 30, 2007
Wait, was that not actually Swedish? Boy, now I feel dumb for not reading about it beforehand. posted by borkingchikapa at 4:16 PM on July 30, 2007
Thank you! Thank you! I saw this in the early '70's and have always wanted another look at it. I still remember thinking "gee, i had no idea Swedish was so close to English!" before the joke sank in. posted by ubiquity at 5:17 PM on July 30, 2007
Thanks for posting this. It was about the second thing I thought of when I heard the news about Bergman's death.
It's just criminal that this is still not available on DVD. posted by AsYouKnow Bob at 5:47 PM on July 30, 2007

Phallica sym-bööl?
This is a fond memory from the independent film classes I sat in on, but never registered for. posted by orthogonality at 6:07 PM on July 30, 2007
Ha, funny. Now I can't help envisioning hordes of brits traveling to Stockholm with high hopes of connecting with the local youth because "Swedish is so close to English."
Sounded much more like a weird Russian-infused German to me. posted by AwkwardPause at 7:03 PM on July 30, 2007
Both of these are more about the mediated experience of watching a Bergman film (probably with someone forcing you to be very, very serious about it all), than they are truly deep deconstructions of Bergman. Still, I found them a fitting way to pay tribute today.
(I only wish they'd ended De Duva with Death being forced to tediously dismantle the badminton set and pack it in the original box.) posted by dhartung at 6:23 PM on July 31, 2007
There's also a French & Saunders parody.
Oh, nice. Thanks, dhartung. posted by homunculus at 9:17 PM on July 31, 2007
Homunculus, den här filmen är fantastiskt! Tak så mycket! It brings back memories of seeing it as a little kid in the seventies. I can still hear my father laughing when the dove shat in Death's eye. posted by Cataline at 5:36 AM on August 1, 2007
In keeping with the Bergman parody theme, here's a pretty spot-on MST3K clip.
