There's a lot of webcomics out there. Most are dull and pedestrian. Some defy any description. For example, Dreamwalk Journal. (nsfw) (via)

From the introductory page:

It is likely to make a good portion of folks run screaming into the night - if they've any kind of bug phobia that is.

Um, bug phobia is the least of the things on that website that make me want to run screaming into the night.

Some defy any description. For example, Dreamwalk Journal.

Let me take a shot at it: "erotic" sci-fi, fetish-y 3D graphics-created comic in the vein of Heavy Metal magazine. That pretty much cover it?

Finally, a comic that answers the question "What would Second Life look like with a lot of raytracing?"

Okay, so maybe it's not that bad -- but it doesn't look nearly as good, cohesive, and awesome as Delta Thrives. So read that instead.

You know, I used to think that Freud was full of shit when he talked about people having a breast-fixated Oedipus complex.

Sorry for doubting you, ol' chap.

Take Poser, add some furry/vore, season with nekkid chicks.

I just described Dreamwalk Journal. Not so difficult.

Kudos for them not resorting to anorexic (boylike?) women with ridiculous tits. But still, the tits are ridiculous.

Ok so aside from the giant 3D breasts and shitty site design how is this unlike all those other "dull and pedestrian" webcomics?

Would that be the same 'belly-dancing zebra' Kishma Danielle with flatmate Ed 'Horse' Kline? Yes, I think it is.

lumensimus, thanks for sharing Delta Thrives. I hadn't seen that before. That's some quality stuff.

lekvar -- no problem! Pretty much everything the E-Sheep guy does is genius. Apocamon, Spiders, even more conventional stuff (at least as far as layout goes) like The Jain's Death. It's super-seldom updated, but I think the stuff that's there has a rare permanence about it.

People who read this, also tend to read Space Furries, SmithStone, Three D Comics, Gropesville, Psychic Dyslexia Institute, B3Sti4LitY, Kit N Kay Boodle, Noggin', Donny's Comic, and Midcentral. (via) But I only read five of those ten... maybe I should look into the other five.

Unfortunately, Dreamwalk Journal doesn't seem to have its own RSS feed, nor is it listed at Comic Alert , which means that when the artists publish new strips, I have to actually keep a /bookmark/ to that page and /click/ on it every so often to look for it. How Web 1.0 is that? Google Reader is my Webcomics viewer of choice these days, as I don't have to go to any more bother than the initial subscription.

(Admittedly, Comic Alert only allows 40 comics per RSS feed, and one RSS feed per email address, but I'm just about to find out if I can use email.ExtraStuffHere@gmail.com to create more than one subscription there...)

Another couple of 3D rendered comics are New Aliens, where a trio of humans are transformed by aliens into over-sexed furries, and Bugs, about a trio of miniscule robots designed for eavesdropping. The latter comic is actually quite good, possibly because it rarely-if-ever expands its focus enough to actually see anything the size of a human.

This is the only comic - nay, thing - that makes sense in this crazy, mixed-up, small-knockered world.

A billion internets to the person who can turn this into a ultra-realistic feature film in the vein of Robert Bresson.

Whoof. A+ for 3D modeling effort expended and time spent - though the art could use some layout tweaks - but I gotta fail this one just on pacing alone.

If you're trying to make an excuse to do photo after photo of nude women with exaggerated boobs and butts, please try to include an entertaining, engaging story. 185 pages???

P.S. Patrick Farley is a friggin' deity of comics. Thus, I have spoken.
posted by zoogleplex at 6:06 PM on August 9, 2007

Jason, have you seen keenspot? There are a shitton of terrible and/or mediocre webcomics out there (many of them furry). I say this as someone who reads several dozen great webcomics. Sturgeon's Law is blind.

zoogleplex: I find that most good 3D modelers are terrible at the other skills needed to utilize 3D models. Little things like plot, writing, animation.

It may seem odd to call a comic about a bunch of bee people with big tits pedestrian (not least because they probably fly around a lot instead of walking), but it is dull and pedestrian, as are almost all comics, online or off.

I'm with you on this one. But if I judged my webcomics based on author insertions/alter-egos, I'd have to stop reading Penny Arcade and Cat and Girl. (Full disclosure: and Megatokyo.) That would leave...Scary-Go-Round. Nope, can't do it.
posted by A dead Quaker at 7:10 PM on August 9, 2007

Well, it's not fair to bring up Cat and Girl here, which just makes this bee porn look even worse. (And Penny Arcade is pretty bad, too, now that I have a look. Scary Go Round is a bit better but also not so hot.)
